# In-Product Survey Creation

This section covers in-product survey creation, from building, [adding or changing questions](#2-add-or-modify-questions-and-skip-logic), [configuring targeting](#3-audience--targeting), and controlling data flow through response settings and recontact options.

<Tip>
  See FAQ's [here](/docs/sprig-studies/in-product-surveys/survey-creation/index#faqs).
</Tip>

# 1. Create a Survey

### Option A: Create from Scratch

1. Click on **+ New Study** and select "In-Product Survey" from the **Start from Scratch** widget

### Option B: Duplicate a Study

1. In the Navigate Pane, click **Studies**.
2. Hold the pointer over the In-Product Survey study you want to copy, then click the ellipses (...) and select **Duplicate**.
3. Edit the study as desired.

### **Option C: Use a Template**

1. Click on **+ New Study** and select **Create from a Templates** to harness a company-owned custom template OR use a pre-built, expert-made template from Sprig's template library.

### **Option D: Use AI to Build**

1. Click on **+ New Study** and then **Create with AI**. Then, simply input your Agent Context and let AI generate a few first-pass template ideas for you based on your use case.

Next, you'll see the **Sprig Study Editor.** Here, you can further customize your survey to match your goal by editing the copy, deleting or adding questions, etc.

# 2. Add or Modify Questions and Skip Logic

There are a ton of question types to choose from, plus additional customization options like consent/legal modules, response piping, randomization, skip logic, and more. See HERE for more information.

1. In the top field of the builder, **rename your study** to something recognizable.
2. Select **Add Questions+** to add additional questions to your study, or click into individual questions to made modifications. You can also duplicate questions and select to "Insert new below" by clicking on the ellipses (**...**) in the upper right corner of any question box.
   <Tip>
     You can compress the survey using the arrow in the upper right corner of the builder for easy review of all questions and logic.
   </Tip>
3. **Customize your survey logic** using skip logic, randomization of questions or response options, piping of responses and/or attributes, and more.

<Note>
  For more information about our survey questions, logic, etc. please see the below:

  * [Study Logic guide](https://docs.sprig.com/docs/shared-study-foundations/main-tasks/survey-logic)
  * [Study Questions](https://docs.sprig.com/docs/shared-study-foundations/main-tasks/questions)
</Note>

#### Marking a Question as *Required*

Toggle *Required* on or off at the top of each question card. *Required* questions disallow your users to skip ahead in the study.

#### Drag to Change the Order of Questions

Click on the question number to the left of each question module and drag and drop it to the desired position in your study.

Once you like what you see, head over to the **Audience** tab, where you can choose your delivery method. Surveys can be sent via your **Website** or **Mobile App**. You'll also set your filters and triggers to create a hyper-targeted survey audience. Note that installation of Sprig is required to complete this step.

# 3. Audience & Targeting

### Audience

1. Click on the **Audience** tab in your study.
2. Select a compatible delivery option based on the study type shown above.

### Targeting

<Note>
  Prerequisite: Sprig installation is complete.
</Note>

1. Under **Targeting**, select an existing [Event](/docs/shared-study-foundations/events/index), or click **New Event** to create a new event trigger (such as a no-code event, compatible with web studies).
2. Optional: Click **+ Add [Filter](/docs/shared-study-foundations/main-tasks/study-triggers-user-filters-and-groups-copy)** in the "If User..." section of targeting to narrow down which users are eligible for your study using events and [attributes](/docs/shared-study-foundations/attributes) For more information, please see [here](https://docs.sprig.com/docs/shared-study-foundations/main-tasks/study-triggers-user-filters-and-groups-copy).

### Response Configuration

1. Next, configure [**Response Options**](/docs/sprig-studies/in-product-surveys/survey-creation/custom-audience-sampling) for your survey. Response options can be set to:
   1. Until a Specific Number
      * Sprig will collect this specific number of responses and then automatically mark the study as complete
   2. Ongoing
      * Sprig will collect either a certain number of responses per day OR a certain sampling rate per day, depending on what is configured by the user

Both options can be customized, allowing you to change the number of responses you're collecting by clicking the `Adjust Confidence` dropdown and selecting your desired option.

1. Optional: Configure the [**Recontact Options**](/docs/sprig-studies/in-product-surveys/survey-creation/resurvey-waiting-period).
   * Sprig offers an account wide recontact option that applies to all surveys in the account. Here, you can elect to override the recontact period as needed on a per-survey basis.

### Optional: Add a Replay

1. You can add a [Replay](/docs/sprig-studies/replays/index) to your Study to gather even more user insights. The replay will follow the same targeting criteria as the In-Product survey it is attached to.
2. Set the Replay clip recording window (time of clip capture, and whether the replay is captured "Before", "After", or "Before and After" the event trigger.
   <Note>
     For more information on replays, please see [here](/docs/sprig-studies/replays/index).
   </Note>

Once you’ve finished customizing all of your Audience settings, you can [preview your survey](/docs/sprig-studies/in-product-surveys/study-testing) to make sure it looks exactly how you’d like.

# 4. Survey Design

Sprig offers two different experiences when it comes to survey design:

1. Sprig Standard Design
2. Conversational UI

You can configure the design on a per-study basis.

<Note>
  For more information, see [Conversational Surveys](/docs/shared-study-foundations/main-tasks/conversational-surveys).
</Note>

# 5. Launch your Study

1. Click **Launch Survey** and start watching the insights roll in!

# FAQ's

### How does Sprig automatically distribute response collection?

To reduce bias and ensure a greater distribution of visitor responses, Sprig uses a leaky bucket algorithm to prevent a survey from collecting all of its responses immediately and completing. When more responses come in over a shorter period of time, Sprig will automatically reduce the rate at which a survey is sent out. As time increases, this rate will go back up and continue to adjust based on the survey's response rate.

### How can I send a survey to all eligible visitors?

In some cases, you might want to send a survey to all of your eligible visitors who trigger an event. This can be done by:

* Setting your survey to collect responses on an `Ongoing` basis.
* From the `Adjust Confidence` dropdown, select `Custom`
* Set the text input to send to `100` percent of your users.
* Save changes.

Note that this will prioritize this survey over others, and can reduce the rate of responses for other surveys using the same trigger event.

### What happens if I am running multiple surveys using the same event trigger?

When multiple surveys rely on the same event trigger, Sprig will automatically rotate through each survey to ensure that each survey is seen and is collecting responses at an appropriate rate. Surveys might still collect responses at different rates, due to different filter criteria (e.g. visitor attributes qualifying them) and recontact waiting periods.
